Veteran (East New York, Brooklyn) with handwritten autobiography

"I am an African American female &

I was born in Newark, NJ. I live in Brooklyn, NY, and I'm traveling this journey while at home alone and in peace & harmony with the world.

I am a U.S. Army Veteran that served 6 1/2 years in military service & honorably discharged from duty.

I started my relationship with Housing Plus in 2015 when I completed treatment at the Samaritan Daytop Village Women's Veteran Program. I moved to the Housing Plus Transitional Housing in Brooklyn, NY. The Mayor's Office of Veterans Services signed me up for independent housing and I moved into my first apartment. I got married, but the relationship wasn't good, so after 6 years of marriage, I separated from my husband and went into the shelter system. Two years later I called Jade at Housing Plus and was blessed with being a part of a new apartment. While in the shelter I went back to college, graduated with an Associate Degree with honors. I worked at the Samaritan Daytop Village Young Mother's Program as a case manager. I have my CASAC-T, and I'm back in school at the City College of New York majoring in Sociology to get a Bachelor's Degree then I'll go for a MSW after I graduate.

Housing Plus and all the employees there have always been good to me & for me. Thank you Ms. Rita & Housing Plus staff. Do good work.

You all do excellent & outstanding work!

You all do outstanding work serving the community."
